Posted by Liz Kavanaugh on 4/26/2023

Amy Allison, Associate Provost of Library Services, is responsible for library operations across the Geisinger enterprise. According to Amy, “Our library mission to ‘make it easy for Geisinger employees and learners to access and use information’ has been my personal mission throughout my career.” She leads the library services team in setting goals to ensure that library services and products meet clients’ information needs.

Since starting at Geisinger in 2019, Amy has led initiatives reorganizing library services staff to improve efficiency and collaboration, increasing collaborations between library services and other departments in Clinical, Research, and Education Institutes, and promoting awareness of library services among the Geisinger community. Serving as a member of the Geisinger School of Graduate Education Graduate Ethics Committee, the College’s Education Council, and the Geisinger NIH Data Sharing Taskforce, Amy prioritizes service to the entire enterprise. As time allows, she works with learners on their research projects to stay in tune with learners’ current information needs.

Prior to her role at Geisinger, Amy worked at Emory University’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library as a clinical Informationist and then head of the clinical Informationist services, where she was responsible for service at four hospitals and support for GME programs. Later as the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library’s associate director, Amy was responsible for research, instruction, and other services for Emory’s health sciences community. At Mercer University, Amy served as librarian and assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

She holds a Master of Public Health from Emory University, a Master of Library Science from Clark Atlanta University, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Baylor University. Amy is a Senior Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals in the Medical Library Association. She has co-authored numerous presentations and publications and taught workshops at professional meetings. Some of her favorite collaborations have been with colleagues in other disciplines to teach or present for non-library conferences, such as the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
