Celebrate National Library Week! Meet Director of Library Services, Tricia Ulmer
Having been with Geisinger libraries since 2007, Tricia currently directs the Health Sciences Library serving the system and leads the Library Services’ digital strategy. In this role, she serves the library leadership team that develops strategies for Geisinger Library Services, including plans for facilities, services, staffing, and digital infrastructure. She collaborates with teams to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic educational and resource-based projects that support the organization's mission, goals, and objectives. While promoting the libraries’ programs and services across the organization, Tricia develops key contacts within Geisinger as well as the medical, health, and information communities. In addition to overseeing library print and digital collections, she also recruits and oversees Health Sciences Library staff and prepares and monitors budgets for the department. In coordination with Information Technology, Tricia optimizes the libraries’ digital infrastructure and evaluates current and emerging technologies to optimize user experience as they seek library digital collections and databases.
Service to the profession is seen in her Medical Library Association (MLA) membership since 2007. She maintains Academy of Health Information Professionals membership and holds a Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS). She currently contributes to the MLA Books Panel as a committee member to solicit and generate ideas for new books and evaluate proposals. The Books Panel works with prospective authors to shape their ideas into proposals that can be successfully published.
Tricia earned her Master of Library Science from Clarion University, and her Bachelor of Science Education in Library Science from Lock Haven University. With numerous state and national presentations and publications, Tricia brings her valuable expertise and extensive experience, day in and day out, to our system libraries' operations and leadership team.
