How the Library Supports Nursing Students
The library supports School of Nursing (SON) students in many ways. We provide:
- Resources, such as databases and textbooks
- Reference Services, such as Interlibrary Loan and Literature Searching
- One on One Instruction
Resources (Databases & Textbooks):
Through library subscriptions, students have access to various research databases and textbooks through the library website. We have also collected resources into a School of Nursing guide to help streamline your research and studies.
Copies of your required and recommended textbooks are available in the Library. Electronic textbooks can be accessed here. For textbooks that are not available electronically, print versions are available in the School of Nursing library in Lewistown.
Reference Services:
We can help you find articles on your topic, suggest databases to search in, and help refine search terms to get optimal results. For items not available in the collection, we have a service called Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan allows us to obtain copies of articles from other libraries. Fill out the Interlibrary Loan form here, or if you go through the links on the library website and click on the Geisinger Logo, it will automatically bring you to the form.

We also have access to a useful tool called LibKey Nomad. LibKey Nomad is a web browser extension that will scan the page for PubMed IDs (PMID) or Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) and will tell you if the library has access to them. Libkey Nomad can be downloaded here: https://thirdiron-com.geihsl.idm.oclc.org/downloadnomad
We can also assist in finding a place to publish your research. Or if you have already found a journal you are interested in submitting to, we can do a deep dive into the journal to make sure that it is a reputable journal.
One-On-One Instruction:
We provide On-Demand training for students on a variety of subjects. We can teach you how to best use a particular database or citation manager. We can walk through refining your search strategy and sorting through the results to find the ones relevant to your research. Email us and we will be happy to help!
