Summer and reading just go together, don’t they? There’s nothing better than reclining in a hammock with the sun on your face and getting lost in a good book. Not another textbook, but a fascinating story or enriching nonfiction.
Here are some titles with a connection to medicine, and the campuses where you can find them.

The Nurse’s Secret by Amanda Skenandore – This fast-paced historical fiction stars a reluctant nursing student who finds herself solving a series of brutal murders.

Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue – A 2017 selection for Oprah’s Book Club, Behold the Dreamers tells the story of a Camaroonian family living in Harlem during the 2007-2008 Financial Crisis. This frank tale of attempting to make the American Dream a reality leaves the reader feeling energized, not crestfallen.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot – Most of us know that the HeLa cells- the remarkably robust cancer cells used in experimentation since 1951- were removed from Virginia farmer and mother Henrietta Lacks without her consent. This book delves into Henrietta’s short mortal life and the specifics of what makes her cells so exceptional. Her story continues today, as on May 21st a federal judge rules that her family may continue their fight to receive compensation for Henrietta’s contribution to science.
