Introducing the Library’s Informationists
Who are the Informationists and what can they do for the Geisinger community?
These health sciences librarians work closely with individuals, teams, and departments to ensure needed information is available to accomplish assignments. The title change from Librarian to Informationist reflects the focus on the unique information services provided, rather than on library space.

An Informationist’s goals are to:
- save you time finding information.
- apply best practices to identify high-quality information.
- help clients become efficient finding information for self-directed learning.
- facilitate use and sharing of information for research projects, writing, and education.
- increase the visibility of research output.
Each Informationist focuses on a specific client segment, and continues gaining knowledge of the clinical, research, and education activities occurring throughout Geisinger, as well as knowledge and skills related to the information used in those areas. For example, they stay current on:
- information products useful to the Geisinger community: journals, books, statistics, data.
- methods: for research, for locating and selecting high-quality information, for disseminating and storing new knowledge.
- tools that enable: collaborating and sharing knowledge among co-authors, teams, or departments; organizing and formatting references; tracking publications and research.
In upcoming articles of the Library News, we will highlight individual Informationists and their particular areas of expertise. Stay tuned to meet each member of the team!
